All is set for CDS Marathon Championship in Abuja….as 250 participants to take part

The third edition of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Armed Forces and Security Agencies half marathon championship in Abuja is set to commence this Saturday with the organizers saying that all is fully set for the takeoff of the annual event.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of marathon race, Navy Commodore, Nuhu Bala who gave this assurance on Tuesday in Abuja while fielding questions from news men disclosed that about 250 participants are expected to participate in the 21.5km marathon race.

He said the marathon championship have two categories of participants, which are the regular marathoners and the veterans within the military and security agencies, noting that there are two different starting points for the two categories of participants.

“The regular participants will cover a distance of 21.5km beginning from the Public Service Institute at Dei Dei along Kubwa – Express way, while the veterans are expected to cover the distance of 10km starting from tipper garage along the same Express way.” Commodore Bala said.

“There are lots of mouthwatering prizes to be won, including cash. The star prize for the first overall will have Toyota Yaris 2018 model. The first overall team will have the IVM G5 SUV donated by Innoson automobile manufacturing company. Hyundai Electra has been allocated as the star prize for the best veteran,” he added.

He also informed that members of the LOC are from members of the armed forces, the securing agencies and relevant sports stakeholders, adding that the marathon championship has the blessings of all the service chiefs and the Inspector General of the Police..

“Members of the LOC are drawn from all the participating security agencies and armed forces, including the representatives of AFN, Ministry of Sports and Youth development and FCT Sports Council.

“The event also enjoys the support and goodwill of all the service chiefs, Inspector General of Police, as well as all the heads of all the security agencies. We say a big thank you for their support and goodwill,” he concluded.
