Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has charged members of the committee to always strive to do their best to contribute meaningfully to the programmes and activities of the committee.

This,he said, was to realise the quest for a greater Nigeria that would be respected across the world; whose citizens would be free from every form of attacks, harassment and other forms of ill-treatment wherever they live or do business the world over.

Hon.Buba, stated this during the inaugural meeting of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, which was held at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

He used the occasion to remind members that the task ahead of them was an  opportunity to join other great Nigerians and patriots to shape the destiny of the Nigerian nation and to beat a new path of development for a country.

He said Nigeria possessed all the necessary potential to lead the free world, but had continuously  failed to live up to its optimal capacity due to some negative factors that must be surmounted for the country to move forward.

In his words, the Adamawa-born lawmaker and entrepreneur said: ”Following the wisdom of our political forebears and the framers of our  Constitution, for Parliament to run with efficacy, order, shared responsibilities and, indeed, optimization of time and results emanating from varying ideas, there must be Committees in place to deeply analyze issues, critically examine policies and strategically aggregate various ideas that enhance nation-building.”

He reminded members of the committee that their appointment as members of the Foreign Affairs  Committee had come at a time the nation was witnessing various challenges on different fronts of our national life and was  already suffering the negative fallouts of these challenges across the world.

He,however, expressed optimism, that, with the right commitment and hard work, the Committee would achieve its mandate. He,again, called on all the members to devote more time and other resources to the activities of the Committee in the face of competing demands.

While pledging to lead by example, Buba said the leadership of the Committee would always allow room for all shades of opinion and divergent views in its attempt to ensure that the activities of the Committee remained both engaging and robust at all times. Buba also noted that,in spite of the fact that some of the Members had been chosen to head the Committee, they were merely firsts among equals, after all.

He solicited for the cooperation of all, stressing that the leadership of the Committee would always do its best to keep the trust of the members of the Committee.
