Dr Vladimir Kreck, Country Representative, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), a German Foundation, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to renew his commitment towards tackling  increasing security challenges in the country.

Kreck, who gave the advice, on Monday, in an interview with our reporter in Abuja, also urged  the 9th National Assembly to hit the ground running towards confronting those challenges the nation was faced with.

He described the security situation in Nigeria as ”very serious,” with crime spreading across the country.

”There are many challenges that have to be tackled in Nigeria by the president as we await his new cabinet ministers.

”I wish there will be more drive on what this government is going to do concretely to cope with  very serious security situation in Nigeria with terrorism spreading, especially in the north,” he said.

According to him, even in the south, we witness an increase in criminal incidences and these must be solved in Nigeria in order to give this country the opportunity to develop.

Kreck, who said the honour to  Late M.K.O Abiola, the acclaimed winner of 1993 Presidential Election by President Buhari was a great gesture, said gesture and politics should be separated.

He also urged the leadership of  NASS ”to form committees as quickly as possible and to start working on  pressing issues affecting the country which are security, infrastructure, economic development, etc.”

He said the debate in the national assembly ”should also be a matter of demographic development because the population of Nigeria is growing everyday.”

”Actually, we have growth explosion in Nigeria with about 5 million new born people every year joining this population, and making it even harder for  government, parliament and security agencies to exercise their duties, especially in terms of economic development,” he said.

According to him, if you have such high fertility rate, you have to create jobs for all these people once they get old enough to enter the labour force.

”So these issues must now be considered in order to find ways to get prosperity to the country within some years,” he remarked.
