New SWAN president pegs ID card fee at N1500..Suspends Honour Sirawo

Following complains by members about the unnecessary increase of the Association Identity card fees by the former President, the newly elected President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ahmed Aigbona on Monday has reduced the fee to N1500 for three years.

The new SWAN president also announced the suspension of the former President, Honour Sirawo for anti association activities.

Ahmed Aigbona and his new executive were elected into office in Abuja on Monday. The election was held at Mummy ‘s Guest House, Utako in the City Centre

Others elected include, immediate vice chairman North West, Ado Saliu as Deputy President, Femi Amosun from Oyo as vice president South West, Emmanuel Uja from Benue, Vice President – North Central, Loveday Herbert from Bayelsa as vice president South South, Ismaila Mohammed from Jigawa as vice president, North West and ikem Asika from Anambra  as vice president South east.Former Kano State chairman, Mike Oboh was elected Secretary General.Others elected include, Treasurer Martins Odiete,, financial secretary Monica IheakamThe new leadership were sworn in by Barrister  Rosemary Hamidu..

Speaking after the inauguration , the new president, Mr.Ahmed Aigbona said the association will work towards ensuring a new drive for sports writers to get its proper place in the development of sports in the country.


Aigbona said the new leadership will carry out its activities in line with the constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalist and the association’s statutes.
He said the former president of the association, Honour Sirawo has been suspended for carrying out acts inimical to the well being of the body.


The president said the association will pursue vigorously interest that will be of larger benefit for its members just as he pledged to operate an open door policy.


He charged members to be steadfast in their quest to key into the new thinking of the leadership just


According to him, all members who feel aggrieved should return to the fold as the leadership sees the association as a family.
