The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has requested for submission of position papers and comments from various stakeholders in preparation for a public hearing on the review of the State Power Sector Reform Law of 2018.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olalere Odusote, revealed that the law will be reviewed to drive investments into the energy sector in Lagos and ensure that all Lagosians have access to reliable energy.

Noting that access to reliable and affordable electricity is critical to economic growth, social development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Odusote observed that enabling electricity regulations are key requirements for achieving access to reliable electricity.

Odusote recalled that the Lagos State Power Sector Law was enacted in 2018 to support the development of the electricity sector in Lagos, the Commissioner averred that a review of the legislation is necessary to strengthen the Ministry’s mandate to develop sustainable  energy strategies, policies and creation of an enabling environment to attract investments,

“To this end, we hereby invite relevant stakeholders and the general public to submit position papers and comments stating the desired reviews and the implications of such reviews to improved access to reliable electricity in Lagos,” Odusote said.

While requesting stakeholders to share electricity sector policies that would promote access to sustainable electricity in Lagos, the Commissioner solicited that submissions must be made on or before the 3rd of July, 2020.

“A public hearing will be scheduled shortly after receipt of the submissions and interested stakeholders will be required to register to attend,” Odustote declared.
