Two prominent political stalwarts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can be endorsed by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Olusegun Obasanjo has earlier served as the president of the country for eight years at the beginning of the fourth republic alongside Atiku Abubakar without hindrances. With the knowledge that he has acquired then, Olusegun Obasanjo can endorse politicians that will be representing the interest of the party in the next general election.
The recent decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clearly shown us that the opposition party’s presidential candidate will likely come from the southern part of the country according to the conventional rules of the party. The leaders of the party announced that the chairmanship position of the party will go to the northern part of the country.
The northerners cannot produce a national chairman and presidential candidate for the opposition party at the same time. The region has been saddled with the responsibility of producing the next national chairman of the party. Therefore, the next presidential candidate of the party will come from the southern part of the country. Olusegun Obasanjo can use his previous experience as a former leader of the country to recommend the flag bearers of the party in the next presidential election.
1. Peter Obi
The first politician that former President Olusegun Obasanjo can endorse and recommend for the party is Peter Obi from Anambra State. Peter Obi has been so active whenever it comes to southern politics in all ramifications. He ran alongside Atiku Abubakar in the previous presidential election in the year twenty nineteen, and he did all that he could do for the interest of the opposition party.
Obasanjo is a very tactical politician who knows the cause and effect of every political move. Peter Obi is from the southeastern part of the country, and the Igbos have been demanding power at the federal level for a very long time. The Igbos will vote massively for Peter Obi during the electioneering processes. Obasanjo should endorse Peter Obi as the next presidential candidate of the party.
2. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
The next politician in the southern part of the country that former President Olusegun Obasanjo can recommend for presidency is Jonathan. There are some rumours that the ruling party wants to get Jonathan to the All Progressive Congress (APC). That should keep members of the opposition party on their toes because he is one of those politicians that is loved by most of the people in the country.
He contested against President Muhammadu Buhari in the year 2015 presidential election and lost to the ruling party. Jonathan simply handed the mantle of leadership to the All Progressive Congress (APC). For that single activity, Jonathan gained the hearts of the northerners. Obasanjo should consider Peter Obi and Jonathan as the next flag bearer of the party.
