2021 was that year many people may never forget in a very long time, due to the series of events that took place.

Below are some of the notable events that took place in the year 2021 that shook the entire nation.

Prophet TB Joshua death

The death of the Founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Temitope Balogun Joshua, is definitely one of the biggest highlights of 2021.

His death came as a shock to most Nigerians, and it’s one that would not be forgotten in a very long time. He died on the 5th of June, days before his birthday.

Nigeria government ban Twitter

Same June, the Nigerian government suspended the operation of Twitter, a micro-blogging and social media networking service.

The ban was a result of the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria corporate existence.

Arrest of Ipob leader Nnamdi Kanu

On the 29th of June, 2021, the Nigerian government arrested Nnamdi Kanu, after 2 years he jumped bail. Kanu was arrested in Kenya and extradited back to Nigeria, where he is awaiting his trial in court.

Before his arrest the IPOB leader boasted how he was untouchable, unknown to him, the federal government were secretly planning his arrest.

Ikoyi building collapse

On the 1st of November, a 21-storey building collapsed at Gerard Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, Killing an undisclosed number of people.

The building was still under construction when the unfortunate incident happened.

Till this moment the Lagos state government have still not recovered from the damages caused by the building.

Charles Soludo win Anambra Governorship election

The former governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, won the Anambra governorship election which took place on the 6 and 9, 2021.

What made his victory more significant was the circumstance that surrounded the election.

At the time when the southeast suffered severe attacks and how the IPOB publicly announced that the election was not going to hold.

The election turned out to be one of the safest elections with zero report of casualties.

Imo prison break

The term “Unknown Gunmen” became very popular after the attack on the Nigeria correctional service (NCS) in Owerri, Imo state.

They set several vehicles ablaze while inmates escaped the facility.

Ever since then, there has been series of attacks not just in Imo, but the entire Southeast.

Chief of Army Staff plane crash

It was a tragedy throughout the entire nation when a military plane crash killed Nigeria chief of Army staff Lieutenant-General Attahiru Ibrahim

He had only just resumed office in January 2021, before the military plane crashed together with 10 other officers in May.

Lt-Gen Attahiru Ibrahim took charge of the fight against insurgency in Nigeria before the unfortunate tragedy.

Sylvester Oromoni Junior death

The name Sylvester Oromoni is one name that would always remind Nigerians of the atrocities that happens in boarding schools.

The 12-years old student of Dowen college died under uncertain circumstances after sustaining injuries inflicted on him by 5 senior students after he refused to join a cult group in the boarding house.

The news went viral like wildfire as Nigerians demanded justice to be served while others shared their own experience.
