2023 election: We’re ready for work, Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, others assure Tinubu at welcome party

Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri Hamzat, as well as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top politicians, on Sunday assured the national leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of their readiness to work for his ambition of becoming the next President of Nigeria, come 2023.

They spoke at a welcome party and prayers for the former Lagos State Governor, held at the State House in Marina.

 

While speaking, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured Asiwaju of the support of Lagosians, adding that Lagosians are happy he is back to the country. He added that his return was divine.

 

“We thank God Asiwaju is back. Let me on behalf of Lagosians welcome you back. Today is divine, Your citizens are happy that you are back home safely on sound health. I want to thank all Lagosians for their prayers.”

 

Speaking on behalf of other executive members of the state government, Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said: “The major thing for us in Lagos is to believe in God as he is the only one that is infallible. Every human being can fall sick. We have been favoured in Lagos that our father is back. We pray that God will sustain and grant u good health. We should not worry about his ambition, he will prosper. People are happy you are back. We are ready for work, the work has started.”

 

The Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, said Lagosians are anticipating for Asiwaju become President , adding his return had proved doubting Thomases wrong.

 

“We have been praying on your behalf and we will continue to do it. For the Thomases, we told them our father is in good health and alive. You are hail and hearty. We can not thank you enough for promoting us and guiding us. We are praying for you so that you continue to sustain the leadership.”

 

Senator Olamilekan Yayi, speaking on behalf of the Senate and other Senators from Lagos, said the Lagos Lawmakers at the National Assembly are waiting to see ‘Asiwaju in Aso Rock as the President.

 

“I am happy our daddy is back in sound health. We are ready for the next line of action which will be established in not distant future.. We are holding forth on the Assembly. We have not lose our guard. We are hoping and waiting to see you there so you can move Nigeria forward,” he said.

 

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, said the visits of northern caucus of the lawmakers to Asiwaju in London “was a message”. He described Tinubu as Eagle, adding his return doused tension in the political circles.

 

“When Asiwaju got in a couple of days ago, I sent a mes be to someone that ‘The Eagle has landed”. The eagle is focused, last long, it’s strong. For me , there was a different energy in Lagos the following day. That says a lot about him. Asiwaju is father to many of us. When I went to London to see him, I never had a doubt about him. It gives me gratification to know that you are somebody who the history of Nigeria can not be written today without being mentioned,” he said.

 

Other dignitaries at the event were members of the Governor Advisory Council, GAC, former deputy governors, members of Lagos House of Assembly, Council chairmen, among others.

 

In his response, Tinubu thanked the state government for it’s support. He doused fear about his health saying he’s hale and hearty.

 

It is recalled Asiwaju Tinubu was away in London for three months as a result of undisclosed illness and had undergone surgery. While away, his London home became a Mecca of sort as politicians went to visit him.

 

He returned to the country on Friday October 8. Few days before his returned, a political movement, South West Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA’23 was launched in Lagos and witnessed large turnout of party faithful.
