..Calls on Women to turn Out Enmass to Vote Female Candidates

By Sharon Akuboh

Ahead of the 2023 General Elections, the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV)  is  calling on the Media to give female candidates the same visibility they give the men for balance all over the country.

Speaking via a Press Statement made available to the Media,  the Nasarawa State Chairperson Mrs Veronica Ogbole, noted that the plea became necessary as we know that the women need to be heard too. Thus it’s only fair that the Media balance their reports by giving the female candidates a chance to reel out their manifesto.

Mrs Ogbole called on Women to come out enmass and vote for female candidates in order to give them the opportunity to contribute their own quota towards the development of our country. The ability rests with the women to change the narratives, if only we know the power our numerical strength holds for us.

She called on women all over the country especially those contesting for various political offices to be more resilient this period as elections draw closer. The League also encouraged women contestants to be strong and use the opportunity to bring the needed Change because women are known for their sincerity and steadfastness.

We want to also observe that the number of women vying for different positions in the 2023 General Election have increased significantly, with 92 contesting for the Senate, 287 for  House of representatives, 22 governorship and 115, houses of Assembly. While in Nasarawa State, 24 women are contesting different positions in the up coming general election.

This has never happened in the history of our country or the history of Nasarawa State. For this achievement I say kudos to the various women groups who have tried in their various ways to see that women come out to contest in this dispensation.

The League of Women Voters, NILOWV, is a non Partisan, non religious, non ethnic, non sectional and non profit, non governmental organization, NGO, that was founded 26 years with the aim of supporting women advancement in politics, public affairs and National Development
