The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles along the busy Kugbo outbound corridor in Abuja, following the enforcement of its ongoing operation, “Operation Safe Kugbo.”
The Corps said the initiative, which began on March 19, 2026, has so far led to the restriction of over 300 articulated vehicles and trucks from plying the route during peak traffic hours.According to the agency, the operation is aimed at reducing the risk of road crashes in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations and existing traffic laws in the Federal Capital Territory. It is also part of the Corps’ broader 2026 strategy to minimise accidents and fatalities on Nigerian roads.

On the second day of the exercise, March 23, the Unit Commander of RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, led enforcement efforts that saw 96 articulated vehicles restricted during peak periods, contributing to the cumulative total recorded so far.

The FRSC noted that the absence of crashes since the commencement of the operation highlights the effectiveness of proactive traffic control measures and strict enforcement.

It added that the success of the exercise has been supported by adequate logistics, strategic deployment of personnel, and real-time monitoring, all of which have improved traffic flow along the corridor.

The Corps emphasised that the restriction is not intended as a punitive measure but is designed to safeguard lives and property, particularly during high-traffic periods when heavy-duty vehicles pose greater risks.

It, therefore, urged motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers to comply fully with the restrictions to sustain the gains achieved.

The FRSC also assured the public of its commitment to extending similar safety-focused initiatives to other critical routes within the Federal Capital Territory and across the country.
