What IBB Said About Igbos And How They Kept Nigeria United

Nigeria, a nation dubbed as the Giant of Africa is blessed with people of different Ethnicity and Religion living with ties that bind. The African Giant houses three major ethnic groups which are the Yorubas, Hausa and the Igbos. These three groups are famously known as “Wazobia”.

The Igbo people are known to be industrious and zealous when it comes to market trading and businesses, the Hausa people are well known for their versatility when it comes to political matters; while the Yoruba people are running the show when it comes to academics.

Nigeria has enjoyed many years of unity in diversity; we have seen schools add some native languages to their curriculum and students were opportune to learn languages of different ethnic groups.

While surfing through the internet, I came across two powerful statements made by a former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) about the Igbo people and the role they played in keeping Nigeria united. What Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida said about the Igbo people is worthy of mention.

1. The Igbo People Have Done A Good Job To Keep Nigeria Together:

According to IBB, Nigerians must ensure that the country remains united. He dubbed the Igbos as people with the spirit of enterprise and urged them to continue to use this gift to promote peaceful coexistence in the country.

2. The Igbos are known for their ability to travel far and wide in search of new frontiers and business opportunities.

The statement made by IBB is commendable and this would surely motivate the Igbo people to continue working for peace. There is nothing Nigeria need at a time like this more than peace, justice and unity.

As we explore business opportunities available, we should continue to allow our positive impacts to be felt among host ethnic nationalities in the country. We must ensure that we uphold the ideals of Nigeria’s founding fathers.

An indivisible Nigeria is critical, and we must do everything in our power to remain as one family, despite our differences in tribe and tongue. The goal remains to build a nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.
