The country programme Director of Solidarity Centre , Mr Sonny Ogbuehi has assured of the center support to the activities of Campaign for Transformative Governance (CFTG) .
Speaking during a five day Post Election Evaluation and Governance Retreat, Mr Ogbuehi said CFTG as expression of Labour Civil Society Collaboration has come to stay.
The projects by CFTG is to Promoting Trade Union and CSO Collaboration in protecting Democratic Civic Spaces in fragile Democracies Phase and Strategic Cooperation Funds: Help Civil Society Prevail Against Repression.
However in a resolution at the end of the retreat which was signed by the Co- Convener of CFTG, Comrade Jaiye Gaskia said the retreat identity the need for the Labour Movement to be re-invigorated. To this end, Political education for rank and file members is critical.
On the 2023 General elections, the group agreed that the election have come and gone with the attendant challenges, urging aggrieved Candidates and Parties to explore the provisions of the Law for resolving disputes rather than resolving to self help.
“That irrespective of the Candidates that would be sworn in on the 29th of May, 2023, their capitalists programmes are fundamentally the same, and would still bring challenges to the Nigerian people.
‘That the Trade Union in particular and the Labour Movement in general have not taken full advantage of ICT and Social Media, as such have not been able to harness their full potentials.
‘That Government at all levels has continued in their effort to shrink the Civic Space and the Labour Movement has a duty to combat and resist any attempt to further shrink the civic space and reverse the trend”.
Speaking further , Comrade Gaskia said the retreat resolves to expand CFTG to other States outside the six pilot states, adding that this efforts should be driven by the National Secretariats of the Pillars and State Chapters of CFTG in the six geo-political zones.
He said States like Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo, Edo and Ondo state should be given priority.
“That the Thermatic Working Groups be constituted immediately and that the pillar components send the nominees into the working groups.
“That the Working Peoples Election and Governance Project (Situation Room) has been set up in line with the working document presented at the meeting. And that the Secretariat, put modalities in place to get the ball rolling.
“That the Women Forum and Students and Youth Forum be established; frameworks and Charters for the respective Forums be put in place. This would be facilitated by the Secretariat.
“That the Post-Election Stage would have two components; 1st Stage (April – May 2023); to put the incoming Administration on Notice with regards to the issues and the 2nd stage (Post May 29th) to commence active engagement on relevant issues and start of work for the Working Peoples Election and Governance Project (Situation Room)”.
