Presidential candidate for the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN), Omowunmi Kafilat Olalere, has expressed confidence in the National Sports Commission (NSC) to safeguard fairness and uphold due process in the forthcoming federation elections scheduled for October 18, 2025.

Olalere, in a statement issued on Thursday, said stakeholders across the gymnastics community remain fully supportive of the NSC’s recent decision to nullify an earlier exclusionary process that had denied four constituencies their voting rights.

“The NSC’s decision to uphold fairness and ensure an inclusive election gave hope to athletes, coaches, and administrators committed to the growth of gymnastics,” Olalere stated.

She cautioned against attempts by “certain individuals” to mount pressure on the Commission in a bid to derail the process, warning that such moves risk undermining transparency and trust in the federation’s electoral system.

“There must be no reversal of the October 18 Gymnastics Election. Any attempt to change this course would call into question the credibility of the electoral process and further disenfranchise legitimate stakeholders,” she said.

Olalere further urged the Commission to remain resolute, stressing that its commitment to transparency and equity would set “a new precedent” that could positively reshape leadership transitions in Nigerian sports federations.

“The bold decisions of the NSC in times like this will positively change the trajectory of federation elections forever in Nigeria,” she added.

The gymnastics community has been closely monitoring developments surrounding the leadership contest, which is expected to usher in a new executive for the federation.
