Team Nigeria’s impressive run at the ongoing African Archery Championship in Abidjan reached a new high on Friday as rising star Aliyu Abubakar powered his way into the final of the 2025 Senior Africa Archery Compound Bow category.
Abubakar, who has dominated the tournament with precision and consistency, will face Mauritius in what promises to be a thrilling showdown for the coveted gold medal. His outstanding performance has earned him admiration across the West African region, with supporters and fellow athletes describing him as “the emerging king of Compound Archery in Africa.”
Widely seen as a nightmare to opponents in his category, Abubakar’s confidence, skill, and accuracy have made him one of the standout competitors at the championship.
Reacting to his qualification for the final, the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, applauded the archer’s brilliance, noting that Team Nigeria has shown consistency and discipline throughout the competition.
“Aliyu Abubakar has been exceptional. He is truly living up to expectations, and the entire team has shown great promise. We are proud of their performance and confident that Nigeria will return home with medals,” Chigbolu said.
With over 30 African countries participating, Nigeria’s strong outing in Abidjan continues to boost the nation’s profile in the sport, signaling a bright future for archery talent development.
