Team Nigeria has wrapped up its campaign at the just concluded African Archery Championship with an impressive haul of two silver medals, affirming the country’s growing presence in the sport on the continent.
Nigeria secured silver in the Men’s Compound Bow individual event through standout archer Aliyu Mohammed, who delivered a remarkable performance throughout the tournament. The second silver came in the Team Compound Bow event, where Nigeria’s squad displayed strong coordination and competitive spirit against top African contenders.
The results placed Nigeria second overall in both categories, marking one of the country’s best outings in recent archery competitions.
Reacting to the team’s performance, the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, expressed satisfaction, noting that the achievements reflect the steady progress being made in the sport.
“We are proud of them and we promise to improve on this in our next international outing,” he said.
“We call for sponsorship from government institutions and the private sector.”
Chigbolu stressed that increased funding and support would enable the federation to provide better training, facilities, and international exposure for athletes ahead of future championships.
The result has boosted morale within the federation and among supporters, with hopes high that Nigeria will build on this success in upcoming global competitions.
The Nigerian delegation to the championship was led by the Federation president, Mohammed Abdulahi.
