The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a targeted enforcement campaign tagged “Operation Safe Kugbo” to improve traffic flow and curb road crashes involving articulated vehicles along the busy Kugbo outbound corridor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The initiative follows a recent intervention by the Corps Marshal, who constituted a high-level tactical team to assess the persistent road traffic crashes along the AYA–Nyanya–Kugbo axis. Findings from the assessment have now translated into concrete action with the rollout of the enforcement operation.
According to the Corps, the exercise is designed to restrict the movement of articulated vehicles and heavy-duty trucks during peak traffic periods, in line with provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations and the FCT Traffic Regulations. The move is also part of the agency’s 2026 strategic goal to promote safer road environments through proactive measures.
The operation, conceived at the national level and implemented locally under the supervision of Sector Commander CC FN Theman, recorded significant early success. On the first day of enforcement, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Nyanya Unit Command, led by Unit Commander CRC WF Luka, deployed a combined team of eight officers and 22 marshals, supported by patrol vehicles and motorbikes.
The team successfully restricted 89 articulated vehicles from operating during designated peak hours, with officials reporting full compliance from motorists and transport operators.
FRSC commended drivers and stakeholders for their cooperation, noting that their adherence contributed to the smooth and hitch-free execution of the exercise.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, the Corps emphasized that the operation is part of a broader, data-driven and people-centered approach to reducing road crashes and enhancing traffic efficiency across the FCT.
It urged all road users, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to comply with traffic regulations, warning that sustained enforcement under “Operation Safe Kugbo” will continue as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property on Nigerian roads.
The statement was signed by Corps Commander Felicia Kalu, Acting Corps Public Education Officer, at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja.
