Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the 10th National Assembly, has been petitioned to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over a financial dispute linked to an alleged contract arrangement.

The petition, dated April 27, 2026, was filed by lawyer Elochukwu Obi on behalf of his client,

Mr. Nonso Okafor. It calls on the anti-corruption agency to investigate claims surrounding a transaction in which the businessman allegedly paid $65,000—said to be about N118 million at the time—in connection with a proposed Federal Government contract.

According to the petition, the arrangement reportedly began in October 2024 when the senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Mr. Osereme Christian Omofoma, allegedly approached the businessman with a request for financial assistance. The petitioner claims the funds were to be repaid or offset through the facilitation of government contracts.

The businessman, the petition states, eventually raised $65,000—reportedly through loans—and paid the sum in two instalments, with the expectation that the contract opportunity would materialise within weeks. However, the petition alleges that no such contract was awarded after several months.

Following this, Okafor is said to have sought a refund of the money. The petition claims there were difficulties in reaching a resolution, including an alleged denial of receipt of the funds at some point during the exchanges.

The petitioner further states that N50 million was later refunded in May 2025, leaving an outstanding balance which he is now seeking to recover. He also alleges that efforts to recover the remaining funds were met with resistance.

The lawyer has urged the ICPC to investigate the matter to determine the facts, including whether any laws were violated, and to facilitate the recovery of the outstanding amount if warranted.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Senator Kingibe or her representatives regarding the allegations. The ICPC has also not publicly commented on the petition.

The case remains an allegation, and the outcome will depend on the findings of the investigating authorities.
