Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahin Sule, has said that the vision of his administration to produce first education for the citizens of the state, will only be successful, if issues hampering functional primary education are identified and solved.
Engineer Sule stated this while delivering a speech during the opening ceremony of the third quarter delegates meeting of the Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU), holding at the Nasarawa State University Keffi, on Friday. While lamenting the fall in the standard of education, the Governor emphasized that without identifying the problems in the primary school system, there won’t be improvement in the level of education in the state.
According to Engineer Sule, the state government can chose to continue building schools but without qualified teachers, appropriate curriculum and a functional system, the level of education will continue to fall.
“I can easily just go on building schools but if we don’t have the teachers, we don’t have the curriculum, we don’t have the basis, we don’t understand what is happening, we will only be having beautiful buildings and the level of education will be zero,” the Governor stated.
The Governor added that his administration is focusing on primary education in order to address the fallen standard of education in the state.
To this end, Engineer Sule stressed the need for his administration to go back to the drawing board, thereby calling on participants at the conference to assist the state by identifying the problems hindering quality primary education.
The Governor used the opportunity to restate the commitment of his administration to train unemployed graduates at the Lafia Technical Institute, so they can become self-employed.
While appreciating CAANU for identifying him and others for their excellence awards in education, Engineer Sule restated the commitment of his administration to support the Nasarawa State University Keffi towards making it a first choice institution.
