The 2025 African Archery Championship has officially kicked off in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with Team Nigeria stepping out in confidence as they joined athletes from over 32 countries competing for continental honours.
Nigeria’s contingent, led by the Nigeria Archery Federationbofficials, has already begun to attract admiration at the tournament, not only for their well-coordinated appearance but also for the discipline displayed by the athletes.
Speaking ahead of the team’s first events, the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances at the championship.
“We are sure of coming home with medals in the categories we registered for,” Chigbolu said. “Team Nigeria is being praised for its appearance and discipline, and we are proud of the commitment the athletes have shown so far.”
Nigeria is competing in multiple bow categories, represented by a blend of experienced and rising archers. The athletes include:
Damilola Sholademi – Compound Bow
Aliyu Abubakar Garga – Compound Bow (Team Captain)
Engr. Aliyu Abubakar – Compound Bow
Alexander Harry-Erin – Recurve Bow U18
Ogunlana Seun Ibrahim – Barebow
The federation officials accompanying the team are: Abdullahi Mohammed Baba President of the Federation and the 1st vice,Amb. Chigbolu Augustine Obiefuna.
Team Nigeria is set to begin competition in their respective categories as the championship enters full swing. Expectations remain high as the athletes aim to make a strong statement for the country on the continental archery stage.
