The Governor Ambode soccer clinic witnessed indeed a large turn out as about 1000 kids participated at the clinic which took place at Campos square in Lagos.

Disclosing this to www.theajasanews.com, former Super Eagles Chief Coach, Samson Siasia noted that the clinic is put together by former Nigeria internationals to show their appreciation to the outgoing Lagos state governor.

“The football clinic was organized by ex-Internationals to honour Governor Akinwumi Ambode for his love for sports and most especially football which he has used to empower a lot of youths of this nation. This is a way of saying thank you to the Governor and that we appreciate him for his wonderful contribution to the game of soccer in this country.

“We recorded a large turnout at the clinic on Friday. You won’t believe that not less than 1,000 kids came for the clinic. They were all happy with some of us who they called their football idols and this made us happy too”, Siasia disclosed.

About 40 coaches made up of 29 Ex Internationals led by Siasia drilled the kids in the basics of football and other necessary skills needed to be a successful player.

The likes of Mutiu Adepoju, John Fashanu who played all his football in England, Friday Ekpo, Michael Dominic, Friday Elaho, and others were on ground to coach the kids aged between 13-17 years.

The soccer clinic was fully supported by Access Bank, LIRS and Sifax group.Top officials that represented the sponsors of the event were: Mr. Mohammed Adelabu and Ms Florence Oki of Access Bank.

The soccer clinic is the first in the series of activities lined up by The Match International, organizers of the “thank you” game being put together in honor of the out-going Lagos State governor, tagged Africa X1 versus Naija Legends at the Onikan Stadium in April.

    This is a nice move by our ex internationals . Maybe this will give opportunities to some young football talent in Lagos in paticular and Nigeria at large.
