The Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command (AOC TAC), Air Vice Marshal Michael Ekwueme, has assured troops of Operation Hadin Kai of sustained and enhanced air support as efforts continue to defeat insurgency in the North East.
Ekwueme gave the assurance during an operational visit to the Theatre Headquarters of Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, at Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri, on Friday, January 30, 2026, where he was received by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
Commending the resilience, discipline and courage of the troops, the AOC TAC pledged the deployment of additional air platforms to address operational challenges and consolidate gains within the theatre. He said the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to providing maximum support to ground forces, expressing optimism that the renewed air operations would accelerate the restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.
“I assure you of maximum support and the deployment of more air platforms to strengthen your operations. We remain hopeful that these efforts will hasten the restoration of peace and a return to full normalcy in the North East,” Ekwueme said.
In his response, Major General Abubakar thanked the AOC TAC for the visit, noting that timely air support has remained critical in achieving mission objectives despite the growing complexity of operations. He also stressed the importance of effective ground-to-air communication, adding that improved transition capabilities and sustained in-theatre training across sectors have significantly boosted joint operational effectiveness.
The visit featured operational briefings at the Theatre Headquarters, exchange of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ book, group photographs and a guided tour of the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.
