The Academic Staff Union of Nigeria,ASUU has stated that as far as they are concerned and irrespective of the proposals presented to them by the Federal Government during the crucial meeting held on Moday the strike still continues.
President of the Union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi told news men shortly after the meeting that whatever proposal presented to them by the government would have to be taken back to their members to deliberate upon, and it is only after then ta decision would be reached on when to call off the strike.
But going by the body language of the ASUU president there is no likelihood that they are fully satisfied with the proposal presented to them by the government as he emphatically said ‘strike continues’ when leaving members of the press.
But, while briefing members of the media who waited patiently for hours, minister of Labor and employment, Dr Chris Ngige on his own part expressed hope that the strike would definitely be called off by the weekend stressing that government has been able to cede to almost all the demands presented to them by ASU.
Ngige noted that they hope ASUU would hold their meeting some time between Wednesday or Thursday this week to deliberate on the proposal and endeavour to get back to them on time. He said that government major concern is to see that the Universities are opened.
