The Manager, External Affairs of Belema Oil Producing Company, Samuel Abel-Jumbo has expressed joy over the award given to them by the National Human Rights Commission for their works towards Humanity, saying that the award will go a long way to motivating them to do more.

Speaking with www.theajasanews.com shortly after receiving the award during the National Human Rights Summit and Award which took place at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Abuja on Sunday, he noted that it is a thing of joy to see that the little thing they are doing to help Humanity is been recognized and appreciated.

Speaking further, he said, ”I feel humbled, and also elated. Humbled because when you look at those who are honoured today they are people who have stood out in their respective areas and work of life and Belema oil as an indigenous oil producing company, a very young company because we started operation about three years ago and the little things we have been doing over time trying to support humanity, trying to ensure that we contribute our own part in human rights initiatives is been recognized today. So, we are very happy, and like they say, to whom much is given much is expected. This is more like a stimulus that would motivate us to do more.

The highly elated man noted that despite been a Niger Delta based Oil Company, they have extended their goodwill to other parts of the country, “Like I said earlier we are operative within the Niger Delta but we do not consider the Niger Delta as our only host as an indigenous oil producing company, we consider the entire Nigeria. Because humanity is humanity everywhere, human right is human rights everywhere.

Revealing what motivate them into reaching out to the less privilege, Abel-Jumbo said , “One thing is fundamental and basic, which is the fact that one has to be alive, the sanctity of the human right is the fact that you need to live and not just living you need to have a quality life. So what we have tried to do is to identify those indices, those areas that will guarantee quality life to our people. One of such is portable water, very critical, very important. Another is medical facilities and another one is access to scholarship, education. We need to empower the youths to ensure that they have access to furthering their studies. Another one is entrepreneurship, encouraging small media scale business across the country. These are the things we have been doing.

“For us, these are encapsulated in our Belema Oil model. Belema Oil model is our strategic design trajectory of ensuring that we change the narrative of what it has always been. In the Belema Oil model we have the twelve engines that propel the model. That is what I just listed, provision of potable water, Education, scholarship, medical facilities, support to small scale business, Entrepreneurship and all of that. So, these twelve engines is what we identify as very critical to humanity. so, this is part of our contribution to the Nigerian state in support of the effort the Federal Government led by Muhammadu Buhari  who has been doing a lot in this wise. So today is a very remarkable day for us. We are happy that we are been recognized for what we do and hope that we will be strengthened to do more,” he concluded. n
