The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, have commended troops of Operation HADIN KAI for their resilience and bravery, while ordering an intensified offensive against terrorist elements in the North East.
The top military chiefs gave the directive on Wednesday during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force (North East) in Maiduguri, barely 24 hours after recent suicide bomb attacks within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
Addressing officers and troops at the Maimalari Cantonment, General Oluyede praised the troops for their sacrifice and sustained operational pressure against terrorist groups in the region. He urged them to remain steadfast and committed to their mission.
The CDS directed field commanders to intensify offensive operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and adopt proactive strategies to dominate the battlespace and prevent further attacks. He also assured troops of continued strategic support from Defence Headquarters in the fight to eliminate terrorism.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu lauded the troops’ dedication and persistence, charging commanders to maintain momentum and enforce a “never again” stance against terrorist activities, especially during sensitive periods such as Ramadan.
He further pledged additional operational support and critical resources to enhance troop effectiveness, improve force protection, and reinforce ongoing military offensives.
Earlier, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI presented a detailed briefing on operational activities within the Joint Operations Area. He highlighted recent successes, ongoing engagements, and challenges faced by troops, noting that despite isolated setbacks, forces have continued to dominate the battlespace.
According to him, more than 200 terrorist fighters were neutralised in recent operations, with several others injured, significantly weakening their capacity to return to the battlefield.
He reaffirmed the commitment of troops to sustain intensified operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and restoring lasting peace and economic stability across the North East.
