www.theajasanews.com can authoritatively report that the Nigeria military is really embarrassed over the action of the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Ibrahim Gusau who effected the suspension of the vice president of the National Association of Athletics Technical Officials, NAATO, Mr Sikiru Akeem from all their activities.
The AFN president had predicated the suspension on the premise that he impersonated AFN during the last Chief of Defense Staff, CDS, half marathon event which took place in Abuja, an allegation the military found to be totally unfounded.
Our investigation revealed that the military is particularly angry over the action of the AFN president on the round that the same Sikiru was the person who insisted that AFN be brought into the program even when they had insisted they did not want their involvement in the 2019 edition of the CDS half marathon on the grounds that they had a very nasty experience with them in the previous edition.
Not only insisting that AFN be involved, Sikiru was said to have given the organizers the AFN president’s phone number and immediately a call was placed to him and he informed them that he was not in the country but will pass the message to the secretary.
www.theajasanews.com can confirm that AFN fully participated in the activities, attending the pre-event press conference and the event proper at the Aguyi Ironsi cantonment. The secretary was on ground to represent the President, and he personally received all that was due AFN from the organizers.
It is against this backdrop that the military feel really insulted and embarrassed by the action of AFN over the suspension of the same man on allegation of impersonation, and has vowed to personally investigate their action.
And while the military is hoping to get to the root of who is behind the plot, information has it that Mr Sikiru Akeem is already consulting with well meaning members of the AFN family with a view to knowing his next line of action, as he is bent on making sure AFN retract the suspension letter where he has been tagged as an impersonator.
