Every successful journey has a beginning and Cristiano Ronaldo’s case is no different. He has been one of the best players in the 21st century and there is no question that he equally dines on the table of the greatest of all time.

Exactly 18 years ago (20th August 2003), the 36 year old made his senior International debut in Portugal’s 1-0 win over Kazakhstan coming on as a half-time substitute for Luis Figo and since then there has been no stopping him.

1- Portugal’s All Time Leading Goalscorer (109 Goals)

At 109 goals, Ronaldo is just not the all time leading goalscorer for Portugal, he is equally leveled with Ali Daei as the two all time top scorers in International football.

As it stands, Ronaldo will go ahead of the Iranian in a matter of weeks should he score for Portugal during the International break.

2- First Player To Captain Portugal To A Major Trophy

Before Ronaldo became captain, Portugal had never won a major silverware.

But under his leadership, the Portugese football team went all the way to win the Euro in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League three years later.

3- Most Hat-tricks For Portugal (9)

By virtue of being Portugal’s all time leading goalscorer, the Juventus talisman has bagged the most number of hat-tricks for his country.

4- Most International Caps (179)

Since making his debut 18 years ago, Ronaldo has had a consistent appearance in the Portuguese squad and has so far accumulated one hundred and seventy nine (179) caps. The most by any Portugese player.

5- Longest Serving Player Ever (18 Years)

Not only is he the most capped player, he is equally the all time longest serving Portugese footballer.

No other Portugese player has enjoyed up to 18 active years with the Selecao.

But for the FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo has won every available trophy in his career and with the tournament set to take place in Qatar next year, the Portugese phenomenon will surely be looking to go all the way before calling time on his career.
