The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed has warned erring drivers against violating established traffic regulations assuring the motoring public that there will be no more hiding place for traffic violators.
He gave the warning pursuant to a landmark judgment delivered during a Mobile Court sitting in Nyanya, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; where 4 recalcitrant traffic offenders were convicted and sentenced to varying days of community service each, for blatant violations of road traffic regulations as stipulated under Section 460(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the provisions of the FRSC Establishment Act 2007.
The Court, presided over by His Worship, Maryam Alhaji convicted the the 4 drivers for various traffic offences as follows: John Emenu who committed the offence of dangerous driving and drivers licence violation (second time Offender) was sentenced to 7 days community service at the national headquarters of the Corps; Mr Ekpo Chukwunonso found guilty for attempting to corrupt Marshal on duty bagged 7 days community service at FCT Sector Command of the Corps; while Mr John Doe who was sentenced to 14 days at the headquarters too committed multiple offences including dangerous driving, road obstruction, and route violation among others.
Meanwhile, Mr Ajayi Adewoye who committed the offence of overloading and seatbelt use violation (a second time offender) bagged 7 days community service at the headquarters of Nigeria Correctional Service.
This sentence follows their arrest by FRSC operatives during the Mobile Court special operations aimed at enforcing compliance with traffic laws and ensuring safer roads for all Nigerians.
The Corps Marshal, while reacting to the sentence described the decisive judgment as a strong deterrent to all motorists who persist in flouting traffic rules. He also said that it underscores existing collaboration between the Corps and the Judiciary in ensuring that offenders are not only apprehended but also made to face the full weight of the law.
He re-emphasised that FRSC will not tolerate acts of indiscipline, assault on its men, and lawlessness on Nigerian roads, as he reassured the intensification of special patrols, surveillance, and enforcement activities nationwide to identify, arrest, and prosecute any motorist who chooses to endanger lives through reckless behaviour.
