The Daura Mini Stadium was commissioned today Wednesday February 28th 2019 by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Barrister Solomon Dalung and the Governor of Katsina State Malam Aminu Masari. In his opening remarks, Barrister Dalung said that the Mini Stadium project was commissioned in line with the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari for the development of the youths of Nigeria who constitute over 70% of the population. “This Mini Stadium in Daura is one of many embarked upon by the Buhari Administration across the country, as the cornerstone of the ‘Catch them Young’ policy thrust of sports Administration in the country. “Over the years, previous administrations did not lay very strong emphasis on developing Sports at grassroots level and this neglect has manifested in the decline in the rate of identifying and nurturing of talents to the Elite Athlete Level, which has grossly affected the country’s standing in the sporting world. “To address this challenge, the Buhari Administration aggressively embarked on the construction of Mini Stadia and Mini Sports Centres across the country to trigger the resurgence of our greatness in sports and further develop sporting facilities across the country from which we will harvest athletes who will represent the country at continental and global sporting events. The Minister urged the state government to ensure the proper utilization of the stadium and its maintenance of which the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has developed a Blueprint for its management. It includes the Manpower Structure, target users, qualification of the staff, the sports that can be hosted as well as the general management of the Stadium. On the occasion, Gov. Masari thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the Mini Stadium and urged the youths to make judicious use of the facility for their empowerment. “For those of you who live around this area, an opportunity to use the Daura Mini Stadium has been provided for you. It is up to you to excel. It is a collective responsibility of all of us to ensure that this Dara Mini stadium becomes functional, operational and used for the purpose it is meant for”, Gov Masari said. Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Mr Olushade Adesola said the opening of the stadium affirmed the alignment of the Ministry with the policy direction of Government to accord priority to the completion of on-going projects. “The construction of the project started barely two years ago as part of efforts of the Ministry to promote the development of Sports at the grassroots level. We have three on-going Mini Sports Stadia and Mini Sports Centres in Kano State of which we are here today to commission this one in Daura. I enjoin you to treasure this facility and work hard to develop yourself in the various sporting events for which we have the facility”. The Daura Mini Stadium has been officially handed over to the Katsina State government and a novelty match played to mark the occasion. The 3,000 capacity mini stadium, located in Daura local government area of Katsina state, the home of the President- elect and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari also has a volleyball court.
