The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has explained that its ongoing reorganisation exercise is a strategic move aimed at safeguarding operations and ensuring the long-term stability of the multi-billion-dollar facility.

In a statement on friday, the refinery dismissed speculations that the shake-up was arbitrary, stressing that the decision became necessary to tackle recurring acts of sabotage that threatened both human safety and operational efficiency.

“The exercise has become necessary to safeguard the refinery from repeated acts of sabotage that have raised safety concerns and affected operational efficiency. The decision was taken in the best interest of the refinery, with dire consequences on human life considered,” the statement read in part.

The company noted that over 3,000 Nigerians remain actively employed at the refinery, with only a few staff affected by the reorganisation. It added that new recruitment is ongoing through graduate trainee schemes and experienced hire programmes, reinforcing its commitment to local talent development.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery also reaffirmed its adherence to internationally recognised labour standards, including workers’ rights to unionise, and assured that the welfare of employees remains central to its operations.

“We recognise and uphold internationally accepted labour principles, including the right of every worker to freely decide whether or not to join a union. Our commitment to workers’ rights is unwavering,” the management said.

Highlighting its broader mission, the company described the refinery as a “strategic national asset” built to serve Nigerians, strengthen Africa’s energy independence, and create sustainable jobs.

It further pledged continued partnership with regulators, employees, and stakeholders to maintain transparency, accountability, and world-class safety standards.
