Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been making significant strides in the development of the state, and his efforts are worthy of recognition. During a recent visit to Obiaruku in Ukwani Local Government area, I witnessed firsthand the progress being made in road construction, particularly the ongoing project on the Agbor-Warri road. This development is a game-changer for the state, as the road was previously a nightmare to travel on, prone to kidnappings and armed robberies.

To be honest, I was thoroughly impressed by the developments I witnessed during the trip. Although I didn’t have the chance to explore the entire state, my visit to Obiaruku, where I traveled by train to Abraka and then continued by road, revealed significant ongoing road projects, a testament to the state’s progress.

My enthusiasm for the road construction might seem exaggerated, but the truth is that the Agbor-Warri road, which stretches far beyond, has been a notorious bottleneck for travelers, including myself. Its deplorable condition made journeys a daunting experience, prompting many to seek alternative routes. Unfortunately, this road’s poor state also made it a hotspot for kidnappers and armed robbers, who preyed on unsuspecting travelers.

Despite being a long-standing issue, previous governors of the state seemed to have neglected the road, possibly citing its federal status as an excuse. However, the current governor’s administration has taken a different approach, as evidenced by the extensive construction work underway on the road. This tangible progress lends credibility to the numerous reports and testimonials from various sources, confirming that Governor Oborevwori is indeed delivering on his promises.

It’s natural to be skeptical about the authenticity of news reports in Nigeria, given the frequent disparity between media portrayals and the actual state of affairs. The country has witnessed numerous governors come and go, often without leaving a lasting, positive impact on their states, despite the lofty promises and media fanfare. This has led to a widespread perception that statements from governors’ media aides are often exaggerated or outright propaganda, rather than genuine reflections of their accomplishments.

With utmost conviction, I can confidently assert that the numerous reports highlighting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s accomplishments are genuinely deserved. His outstanding performance has not gone unnoticed, as evident from the prestigious awards he’s receiving from esteemed organizations, including the “Governor of the Year” award from ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television.

One thing that truly warmed my heart during my visit to Delta State was witnessing firsthand the impact of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s initiatives. He has implemented programs aimed at empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners, which has stimulated economic growth and job creations. Furthermore, the governor has taken significant steps to upgrade the state’s healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that citizens have access to quality medical services. Additionally, his administration has introduced policies and programs designed to improve the standard of education in Delta State, demonstrating his commitment to the overall development of the state.

While Governor Oborevwori’s administration has made significant strides, particularly in addressing corruption, promoting ethical conduct, and tackling the backlog of primary school pensioners’ emoluments, it’s crucial to acknowledge the challenges that still lie ahead. Despite his tireless efforts to ensure citizens’ safety and well-being, fostering a secure environment for economic growth and development, one pressing issue demands urgent attention: the alarming presence of herders in the state’s bushes. This development not only poses a threat to the livelihoods of farmers but also undermines the state’s security. It’s essential that the governor addresses this issue promptly to prevent further complications.

The presence of these herders has severely impacted the livelihoods of our people, as they have been subjected to kidnappings and assaults while attempting to tend to their farms. This has resulted in a significant impediment to agricultural activities, which is particularly alarming given the importance of farming to our community’s survival. Having personally witnessed the Fulani herders roaming the bushes with impunity, I can attest that this is not a matter of speculation, but a dire reality that requires immediate attention.
