The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to uphold the virtues of unity, compassion, and forgiveness as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr.In a goodwill message marking the end of the Ramadan fast, Wike congratulated the Muslim Ummah and all residents of the FCT, describing the holy month as a period of spiritual renewal, self-reflection, and moral rebirth.
He urged residents to sustain the values imbibed during Ramadan in their daily lives, noting that compassion, charity, and peaceful coexistence are essential to strengthening the social fabric of the nation’s capital. The minister also called on citizens to continue praying for Nigeria and its leaders to ensure lasting peace and progress.
Wike commended residents, as well as corporate organisations, for their acts of kindness and cooperation throughout the fasting period, noting that such gestures had fostered unity and a sense of belonging across communities.
“It is reassuring to see Muslims sharing and caring for fellow Muslims and non-Muslims alike. By their conduct, they have demonstrated a commitment to maintaining Abuja’s pride of place as the Centre of Unity, Peace, and Harmony in Nigeria,” he said.
Looking ahead, the minister acknowledged that political activities in the FCT would soon intensify as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. He assured residents that the FCT Administration remains committed to providing a safe, orderly, and conducive environment for all political engagements.
Wike also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership, stating that the Renewed Hope Agenda has improved the socio-economic conditions of residents and strengthened security across the territory. He urged continued public support for the administration.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to safety, the minister assured residents that security agencies are on high alert to guarantee a peaceful festive period. He encouraged residents to celebrate without fear, emphasizing that the FCT Administration remains dedicated to protecting lives and property while transforming Abuja into a world-class city.
He concluded with prayers for the acceptance of the fasts and good deeds of the faithful, wishing all residents a joyful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
