In a bid to enhance activities at the Karu International Market, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has met with groups of influential traders from Kano State.
At the parley which took place on Wednesday within the premises of the Karu market, Engineer Sule, assured the over 100 traders representing various trading groups from the ancient city of Kano, of a favourable policy that is mutually beneficial to both the state government and the traders.
The Governor, who traced his relationship with some leaders of the traders to when he was with the Dangote Group, reaffirmed his believe in the business acumen of Kano traders, adding that his administration is willing to partner with businessmen for the benefit of the state and its people.
According to Engineer Sule, businessmen control the economy of the country, with a single businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, controlling 30 percent of the Nigerian capital market.
“The economy of the country is in the hands of businessmen. That explains why I am always seeking to partner with businessmen so that we can support each other in order to grow,” he stated.
In order to attract the traders from Kano to do business at the Karu market, Engineer Sule assured them that government is willing to provide conducive business environment at the market in order to make life easy for the traders.
He disclosed that the state government will not only allow for discounts in the rent for the traders, but will also ensure that there will be no review in the rent for the first three years of the leasing agreement.
To this end, Engineer Sule waved aside the requirement for every trader to sign the leasing agreement but that only group leaders could sign on their behalf.
Leader of the traders delegation from Kano, Alhaji Salisu Sambajo, Chairman, Sambajo General Enterprises Ltd, said they were in Karu based on their past relationship with Engineer Sule while he was working with the Dangote Group.
Sambajo, a distributor with Dangote Four Mills Plc, expressed appreciation that the Governor could still look back to their relationship and to invite them over to do business together.
He however expressed concern on the need for the government to make discounts on the rent, as well as simplify the leasing agreement so that it can be appealing to their members.
