A senior figure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the resignation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accusing him of overstepping his constitutional and political boundaries.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru speaking on Monday, said Wike’s recent actions and public statements amounted to an abuse of office and were incompatible with the responsibilities of his position as an appointee of the federal government.

According to him, the former Rivers State governor has repeatedly interfered in matters beyond his mandate as FCT minister, including partisan political affairs and issues relating to state politics, thereby undermining democratic norms and party discipline.

“Minister Wike has clearly exceeded the limits of his office. His conduct in recent times shows a blatant disregard for due process and respect for constituted authority. For the sake of good governance and political decency, he should do the honourable thing and resign,” the APC chieftain said.

The party secretary warned that continued silence over such actions could set a dangerous precedent, stressing that no public official should be allowed to wield power without restraint or accountability.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to take a firm position on the matter to protect the integrity of his administration and ensure that cabinet members operate strictly within the scope of their responsibilities.

Wike, a former governor elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been a controversial figure since his appointment into the APC-led federal government, often drawing criticism over his outspoken style and political interventions.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT minister had not responded to the call for his resignation.
