Battle-hardened veterans of the sport and excited, determined debutants from all of Africa have converged on the coastal city of Tunis with one goal: To test their skills, experience, and strength at the prestigious ITTF-Africa Championships —one of the premier events on the continental table tennis calendar.
For many, this marks their debut at the tournament, and the excitement is palpable as they join a gathering of Africa’s finest table tennis talents.
Congo Brazzaville’s Thomie Mossemba expressed her enthusiasm about competing at such a high level. “I’m here to learn from some of the best players in Africa, who are also among the best in the world. It’s an exciting opportunity to represent my country, and I hope to gain valuable experience and win some matches,” she said.
Angola’s Kailane De Sousa, making her third appearance at the championships, sees the event as another chance to represent her nation with pride. “There’s no doubt this is a gathering of Africa’s elite, and many of them are world-class. I hope to return home with medals this year and hopefully be part of the team heading to London in 2026,” she shared.
Cameroon’s Enjema Moussa may be the happiest player in Tunis. “This is my first international tournament after our team won gold at the regional championships in Kinshasa. I’m thrilled to meet stars like Hana Goda, Omar Assar, and Dina Meshref — though I’m sad Quadri Aruna isn’t here. I’ll leave with a wealth of experience and aim to win some matches,” she said.
Ghana’s Ernest Quavcod reflected on the long journey that led him to Tunis. “It’s been a long road to make the national team, especially after competing at the last African Games. I’m honoured to be here and want to repay the faith placed in me,” he said.
Uganda’s Joshua Magaya echoed the same sentiment of gratitude. “I’m so thankful for this rare opportunity. I want to give my best and solidify my place in the national team,” he said.
For Nigerian teenage sensation Favour Ojo, the tournament marks a proud milestone. “It’s a great honour to be part of this team. I hope we qualify for the World Championships in London 2026. Beyond that, I want to win matches and help my team reach the podium here in Tunis,” she said.
