FCT ERC Hosts 5-Day Training for FCT Teachers on Entrepreneurship Pedagogy

In a bold step to advance Entrepreneurship Education in FCT Schools, the FCT Education Resource Centre (FCT ERC) of Education Secretariat has organized a five-day intensive training program to skill and upskill Secondary School Teachers across the Six Area Councils of the Territory.

The program aligns with the new curriculum recently released by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), with a focus on fostering entrepreneurship mindset among learners.

Declaring the program open, the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, emphasized that the training is more than just a program, it is a collective journey to reshape Entrepreneurship education for a rapidly evolving world.

He highlighted that Entrepreneurship thrives through inclusion, innovation, and empowerment, which define the future the Secretariat is committed to building.

According to him, every learner deserves an equal opportunity to become an innovator, creator, leader, and job-builder.

Dr. Hayyo further noted that Technology is a great equalizer in modern Entrepreneurship education. He urged participants to explore technological tools revolutionizing entrepreneurial learning from online platforms and business management applications to digital market places and AI-driven innovation tools.

Acknowledging the organizers and partners he commended the program’s design, which goes beyond theory to include practical exercises, real-world case studies, group collaboration, and interactive activities.

He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained in classrooms, training centers, businesses, and community initiatives, while also calling on them to democratize learning by creating spaces where every learner can thrive.

Speaking in the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat, Mrs. Chinwe Joy Okeke, highlighted that the initiative empower teachers with the competencies needed to nurture innovative, self-reliant, and future-ready learners.

She added that the training strengthens the entrepreneurial capacity of teachers and lays a foundation for an economy driven by creativity, resilience, and opportunity.

Welcoming guests, Director of FCT ERC, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim explained that the workshop by ERC was organized in strong partnership with UNESCO and CEBAR aimed at strengthen teachers’ capacity in delivering inclusive and innovative Entrepreneurship Education.

She emphasized that the Training will equip participants with digital tools and practical strategies to make learning accessible to all, regardless of disability, gender or socio-economic background as the Centre commitment is not to leave any one behind but stress on inclusion and ensure sustainable growth.

The CEO of CEBAR, Ms. Carol Barlow, stressed that Entrepreneurship education equips young people to discover solutions to community problems. She encouraged teachers to inspire creativity, teach differently, and become agents of transformation who shape lives and the nation.

The Secretary General of Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO,Dr. Lateef Idowu Olagunju represented by Mrs. Eunice Ayara, Head of the Education Sector, reiterated the organization’s commitment to localizing UNESCO’s global vision through teacher development, school innovation, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable national growth.

She described Teachers as the backbone of educational reform, capable of nurturing future job creators and problem solvers when equipped with entrepreneurial approaches.

In their various goodwill messages, NERDC, FCT Education Boards, and Departments commended FCT ERC for prioritizing Entrepreneurship education as the core of learning and teaching.in FCT .

Participants from different Secondary Schools in the FCT expressed their readiness to apply the knowledge gained, fostering innovation and creativity among students to become self-reliant rather than solely job seekers.

The highlight of the five-day training program which seeks to enhance teachers’ understanding of Entrepreneurship pedagogy, equip them with practical skills and methodologies, and foster innovation and entrepreneurial thinking among students is presentation of certificates to 100 participants.
