FCTA Moves to Recover 1,095 Properties After Owners Fail to Clear Outstanding Charges

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun a major debt-recovery drive targeting 1,095 high-value properties whose owners failed to settle statutory land charges despite repeated warnings.

The affected titles—located in some of Abuja’s most prestigious districts, including Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse—were earlier revoked after their owners ignored multiple notices issued between May and November 2025.

According to a public statement released on Friday, the FCTA said the enforcement follows the approval of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who authorised immediate action against defaulters of Ground Rent, Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills, Land Use Conversion fees and Penalty/Violation fees.

The Administration noted that public notices were widely circulated through newspapers, television, and online platforms, giving property owners ample opportunity to regularise their payments or risk losing their titles.

However, many failed to comply, a development the FCTA says violates the terms of their land allocation and provisions of the Land Use Act, particularly Section 28 subsections 5(a) and (b), which permit revocation for non-compliance.

With the expiration of the final 14-day grace period on November 25, 2025, officials say enforcement will now proceed on all listed properties—835 owing Ground Rent and 260 in default of Violation and Land Use Conversion fees.

The FCTA stressed that the action is part of a broader effort to restore sanity to land administration, improve revenue generation and ensure compliance with statutory obligations across the capital city.
