Recently, the story of a Nigerian graduate of political science who studied at the University of Nigeria surfaced on the internet, and one thing to note about the graduate is that he had jettisoned the ideology of searching everywhere for a white-collar job and rather resolved to fry Akara on the street.

According to The Whistler the Nigerian graduate, whose name was Ayobami Ogunmoroti, believed that not all graduates would work in the oil sector or under the Nigerian government, and he was one of such Nigerian graduates who had wished to be an entrepreneur.

One thing that Nigerians need to know about the story of this Nigerian graduate is that he did not allow his status as a graduate to alter his ambition, because the first thing that used to come to people’s minds about him was that there must be something amiss with him to have decided to start selling a bean cake that is fondly called Akara by Nigerians.

When the Nigerian entrepreneur was interrogated by The Whistler, it was interesting to know that this graduate reckoned that it would be hard for him to carry his certificate about in search of a white-collar job once he had to put a woman in a family way.

He had noticed that getting a white-collar job may not be easy, and he had already determined that he didn’t want to work under anyone because he had never worked under anyone.

Moreover, he had been an entrepreneur since his school days; he had been producing magazines that he had been selling and earning money to sponsor himself right from university.

He had been a support to some indigent pupils because, with what he earned from his income while selling his magazines, he used to buy things for pupils whose parents could not afford books, sandals, school bags, and so on.

Thus, if he can support some people, he can support himself and his family.

That was how he concluded what to do. One thing about him is that he went on the internet to look for what he could do with the money in his hand and came across the Akara business. That was how he started.

Although he faced some challenges in the beginning, such as settling the street boys who often disturbed him while working, that was why he left Bayelsa state, where he started, for Abuja.

Today, he is happy with his business, as he is seeing 80,000 to 100,000 naira at the end of the month after he must have subtracted his capital.

Now he can provide for his wife, who gave birth to a child recently, and he can support his aging parents.

This is an amazing story of a Nigerian graduate that is suitable for another redundant graduate to learn from.

It is always good to seek a white-collar job after graduation, but it is advisable to find something to do before one acquires the job. That is what Abayomi is doing at present.
