The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, mni, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of three students of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), who lost their lives in a multiple auto crash at Sabo Roundabout, along the Shagamu–Ikorodu road in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the tragic incident involved six vehicles — a white Mitsubishi pickup, three commercial tricycles, a blue Toyota car, and a white Novo truck — and was reportedly caused by a mechanical brake failure that led to a chain collision.

Eight persons were involved in the accident, out of which three, all identified as LASUSTECH students (two males and one female), died on the spot, while five others were rescued. Two of the survivors sustained varying degrees of injuries.

FRSC rescue teams from the Ikorodu Unit Command were said to have responded swiftly to the scene, evacuating the injured to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In his condolence message, the Corps Marshal described the incident as “deeply painful and regrettable,” lamenting that the nation had once again lost young lives full of promise and potential. He extended his heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims, as well as the management, staff, and students of LASUSTECH.

Mohammed prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for strength for their families and the university community to bear the loss.

He further cautioned motorists, especially fleet and commercial vehicle operators, to prioritise regular maintenance and technical checks on their vehicles — particularly on brakes and tyres — to prevent avoidable mechanical failures.

The FRSC boss reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to intensifying nationwide vehicle inspection and enforcement as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safer roads across the country.

Members of the public were also encouraged to report reckless driving, dangerous vehicles, or suspected mechanical faults through the FRSC’s toll-free emergency number 122, the FRSC Mobile App, or at the nearest FRSC Command.
