The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an immediate investigation into the mob attack on the RS5.12 Benin Toll Gate Unit Command Office following a fatal crash along the Benin–Lagos Expressway. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, February 19, 2026, followed a rescue operation at the Benin Toll Gate axis where two trucks reportedly collided. The crash claimed the life of one of the truck drivers and left FRSC personnel critically injured. According to the FRSC, one of the injured officers later died despite receiving urgent medical attention, escalating tensions at the scene. In the aftermath, an angry mob reportedly stormed and vandalised the Unit Command office. The Corps Marshal, however, commended the swift intervention of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, whose prompt response helped restore order and prevent further escalation. Mohammed condemned the attack on FRSC personnel and facilities, describing it as unacceptable and deeply regrettable. He stressed that the operatives were performing their lawful duty of saving lives when the tragic crash occurred. While commiserating with the families of the deceased truck driver and the fallen officer, as well as the entire FRSC workforce, the Corps Marshal directed a comprehensive investigation into both the cause of the crash and the circumstances that triggered the mob action. He assured that anyone found responsible for the violence or any wrongdoing would be brought to justice in accordance with the law. The FRSC boss reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads across the country and urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of the agency’s life-saving operations.
