The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Dangote Cement Transport as part of renewed efforts to curb the rising spate of road crashes involving articulated trucks across the country.

The move follows public concern over recurring accidents linked to Dangote trucks. Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, convened a high-level meeting with the management team of Dangote Cement Transport, led by Mr. Murillo Silva, at the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja to chart practical solutions.

Key areas of collaboration include structured training and retraining programmes for Dangote truck drivers under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), stricter compliance with vehicle maintenance schedules, and the installation of critical safety devices to reduce mechanical failures.

Also on the agenda was the design of joint safety programmes that could serve as a benchmark for other fleet operators nationwide.

Speaking after the meeting, the Corps Marshal described the partnership as a proactive response to public outcry and a demonstration of the FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives on the highways.

“This engagement is more than a response to recent incidents. It is a proactive step to ensure that lives are saved, confidence is restored, and the Nigerian motoring public is assured of safer highways,” Mohammed said. “The FRSC and Dangote Cement Transport share a common responsibility, and together we must drive down crash statistics by investing in training, compliance, and innovation.”

The Corps noted that beyond this collaboration, it has scaled up nationwide interventions in recent months, including intensive driver training and recertification programmes for articulated vehicle operators, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and expanded public enlightenment campaigns.

According to the FRSC, these efforts—anchored on global certification standards—are aimed at instilling a culture of safe driving among high-risk vehicle operators.

Mohammed called on other corporate organisations and transporters to emulate Dangote Cement Transport by opening their operations to safety audits and collaborative training, stressing that saving lives on Nigerian roads remains the Corps’ overriding priority.
