The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed a high-level tactical team to the busy AYA–Nyanya Expressway in a decisive move to address recurring road traffic crashes along the corridor.
The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, following a series of fatal and disturbing accidents on the route, which serves as a major gateway into the nation’s capital, Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the tactical team is led by the Assistant Corps Marshal (Operations), Olusegun Ogungbemide, and has been tasked with conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the causes of the crashes. The team is also expected to recommend immediate, evidence-based solutions to curb the incidents.

The FRSC described the intervention as part of a proactive and intelligence-driven strategy aimed at preventing accidents and safeguarding lives, rather than responding after tragedies occur. The Corps said the deployment underscores its commitment to identifying systemic risks, eliminating hazards, and strengthening its operational presence on critical highways.
Describing the AYA–Nyanya corridor as a strategic transport route, the Corps stressed that the move signals a zero-tolerance approach to preventable road crashes.
The initiative also aligns with the ongoing Eid-el-Fitr special patrol operations, designed to ensure smoother traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for millions of Nigerians traveling during the festive period.
The Corps Marshal urged motorists, commuters, and pedestrians to cooperate fully with the deployed team and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing that road safety remains a shared responsibility.
He assured the public that the FRSC would continue to adopt innovative strategies, deploy resources effectively, and respond swiftly to emerging threats in order to improve road safety nationwide.
