The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her generous donation of ₦110 million to support victims of road traffic crashes. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the gesture as a demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda and a lifeline for the families of the 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a tragic road accident earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has issued an Executive Order mandating full-scale enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly compliance with traffic lights, within the Kano metropolis. The Governor directed the FRSC and Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to work together to implement the Order.
The FRSC Corps Marshal pledged to deepen inter-agency partnerships, deploy more personnel to high-risk routes, and intensify public enlightenment campaigns to reduce crash rates. He also warned motorists in Kano State that reckless behavior, including running red lights, will no longer be tolerated and will attract severe penalties.
The Corps Marshal called on corporate bodies, state governments, and well-meaning Nigerians to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
