The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a nationwide directive mandating all construction companies operating on Nigerian roads to immediately install proper road signage at their project sites, whether active or inactive.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed gave the order in Abuja, saying the move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing drive to upgrade and rehabilitate road infrastructure across the country. He said the directive was necessitated by the need to enhance safety for motorists navigating construction zones.

Mohammed expressed concern over the persistent failure of some contractors to provide adequate warning and diversion signs, a lapse he described as dangerous and unacceptable. He stressed that proper signage is a non-negotiable requirement for road safety and must be maintained and updated throughout the duration of construction works.

To ensure full compliance, the Corps Marshal directed all FRSC Commanding Officers nationwide to begin immediate and strict enforcement of the order. He warned that any construction firm found violating approved safety standards would face firm regulatory actions.

Mohammed reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Federal Government’s massive investment in road development translates into safer and more efficient travel for all Nigerians.

The statement was signed by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer, on December 1, 2025.
