The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered another stolen vehicle during a routine patrol operation, reinforcing its ongoing efforts to combat vehicle-related crimes across the country.

The recovery occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at about 5:11 p.m. at the RS2.1114 Isolo Unit Command during a routine enforcement exercise. According to the Corps, a Toyota Sienna with registration number LSD438GK, ash in colour, was stopped for a Vehicle Licence Violation after the driver failed to present valid vehicle documents when requested by patrol operatives.

In line with standard enforcement procedures, officers impounded the vehicle for further verification.

Subsequent checks later revealed that the vehicle had previously been reported stolen, while the driver had already been declared wanted by law enforcement authorities.

In a related development, officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Ajao Division Police Station on Monday handed over the suspect in handcuffs to the FRSC Command for necessary action.

The Corps described the recovery as further proof of the effectiveness of routine patrol enforcement and the growing operational intelligence of its personnel.

According to the FRSC, what initially appeared to be a simple traffic violation check ultimately led to the interception of a stolen vehicle, highlighting the vigilance and professionalism of its officers.

The Corps also attributed the success to the deployment of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), a digital platform that enables the verification, traceability and identification of vehicles across Nigeria.

The scheme, the Corps said, has significantly improved inter-agency collaboration, strengthened transparency in vehicle registration processes and curtailed the activities of criminal syndicates involved in vehicle theft and identity manipulation.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the enforcement team for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to rid Nigerian roads of criminal elements.

He stated that the FRSC would continue to leverage technology, intelligence and strategic partnerships to safeguard lives and property on Nigerian roads.

The Corps also advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly documented and to cooperate with patrol officers during routine checks, stressing that traffic enforcement plays a critical role not only in ensuring compliance with road safety laws but also in promoting national security and crime prevention.
