In a thrilling finale, Team Ogun emerged victorious in the women’s team badminton event at the Gateway Games 2025, held at the Alake Sports Complex. Led by multiple African Championships medallist and Olympian Dorcas Adesokan, Team Ogun defeated arch-rivals Team Edo 3-2 in a nail-biting match that kept the home crowd on the edge of their seats.

The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination. Team Ogun took an early lead, winning the first two singles matches, but Team Edo fought back, leveling the score at 2-2. The decisive doubles match was a heart-stopping affair, with Adesokan and her partner displaying nerves of steel to win the deciding set 21-18.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Team Ogun, which has not won the women’s team title since 2016. Adesokan’s leadership and mentorship were widely praised by officials, and her personal triumph is seen as a testament to her resilience and elite execution.

The win is also a sweet revenge for Adesokan, who had missed out on the team event gold medal at the 2022 Sports Festival in Asaba. With this victory, Adesokan and Team Ogun have cemented their legacy as one of the top badminton teams in the country.
