The Global Alliance for Peace and Unity (GAPU) has commended the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Dr. Iman Suleiman Ibrahim, for her outstanding commitment to women’s empowerment and protection of vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Alliance, led by its National President, Hon. Solomon Pevkyaa, to the Minister in her office in Abuja. The visit was part of GAPU’s ongoing National Peace Awareness Campaign Against Violence on Women, aimed at promoting peace, inclusivity, and protection of women’s rights in society.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Pevkyaa praised Dr. Ibrahim’s visionary leadership, describing her empowerment drives as impactful and transformative.
He emphasized that GAPU’s mission to promote peace and unity aligns closely with the ministry’s agenda of protecting and empowering women.
Pevkyaa also stressed that criticisms against the Minister are baseless, noting that she has taken bold initiatives to empower Nigerian women through innovative programmes that have transformed the ministry into a global standard.
He further remarked that her leadership has elevated the relevance of the Ministry of Women Affairs, prompting the Federal Government to give full attention to women’s issues and family support programmes.
“Our partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs is vital to strengthening national peace and security. Together, we will continue to push for a Nigeria where women are safe, empowered, and given the platform to lead in building unity,” Mr. Pevkyaa added.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions, GAPU conferred on Dr. Ibrahim the prestigious award of “Amazon of Peace, Unity and Women Development in Nigeria.”
Responding, Dr. Ibrahim warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed her ministry’s dedication to advancing policies and programmes that empower women and girls.
She highlighted a number of initiatives already implemented by the ministry, including economic empowerment projects for women entrepreneurs, vocational and skills acquisition training for young girls, and advocacy against gender-based violence.
“Peace and development cannot be sustained without the active involvement of women. Our ministry remains committed to building opportunities that allow women to contribute meaningfully to nation-building,” the Minister said.
The visit concluded with a renewed pledge by both parties to deepen collaboration in fostering peace, empowering women, and addressing gender-based violence across the country
