Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other first responders on Thursday successfully battled to a halt an inferno at Water Corporation, Onikan roundabout, in Onikan area of Lagos Island.
The fire was reportedly discovered to have ignited from different places on the ground inside and outside the corporation’s complex.

Further investigations revealed that the fire was suspected to have occurred as a result of an underground gas or petrol facility, suspected to be a pipeline.

In the performance of it’s statutory responsibilities, LASEMA did not record any loss of lives during the operation, nor were injuries sustained.
The combined efforts of the Agency’s Response Team, alongside LASG FIRE, FEDERAL FIRE and LASTMA officials on ground, paid off in ensuring the situation was under control.

Though the suspected source of the gas leakage is still unknown, LASEMA’s efforts on behalf of other Emergency responders, reports say, yielded handsome results.

The confined inferno was curtailed for a long period and disallowed from spreading, burning in pockets, until finally put out upon the arrival of the gas pipeline vendors, who turned off the gas pipes at it’s mains supply.

While this went on, road traffic was diverted to allow for smooth passage of commuters. All roads inwards Onikan were effectively cordoned off from Awolowo road to mitigate against any secondary incidents while recovery operation lasted.
