It has not been the new start to life that Messi would have hoped for as he is yet to find the back of the net in his first few games for PSG. However, while it is certain that Messi would score at some point, his PSG teammates seem to be playing a role in his goal drought as they are yet to fully understand his movements.
During one of their last matches this move played out and unfortunately, it didn’t lead to a goal.
However, a very similar move happened back in Barcelona and Messi scored.
In the picture below, Messi spots the movement of one of Mbappe and bursts open to create a chance.
Mbappe doesn’t see the opening that Messi has created and opts to shoot instead of pass.
The keeper makes a save and the goal-scoring opportunity is lost. Messi walks away sadly.
Throwback to his time at Barcelona where he scored in a similar fashion in their 3-2 defeat of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Messi spotted the chance and created an opening for Alba to pass.
Alba showed his awareness and understanding of Messi’s movement and made the pass.
Yes, you guessed right; that pass by Alba led to an assist as the ball landed beautifully in the back of the net.
Messi didn’t have to walk away sadly then.
