Manchester City trashed Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium as they kept their winning form going. Mikel Arteta got his third loss of the season, it has really been a terrible start to the season for Arsenal. Here are two mistakes Mikel Arteta made as he lost to Manchester City.

1. Wrong Tactics

Mikel Arteta used a 5-4-1 formation for today’s match. He seldomly uses three center defenders, Manchester City still got behind their five man defense. It even got worse as they failed to launch an attacking threat in the first half of the. It was wrong for Mikel Arteta to change his formation, the lineup used against West Bromwich Albion earlier this week was even better. In a way, Mikel Arteta was responsible for Arsenal’s loss in today’s match, but the players also had a hand.

Aubameyang showed a world-class display against West Bromwich Albion earlier this week, but he couldn’t do the same against Manchester City in today’s match. He barely got a touch in the opposition’s penalty area and wasn’t active in attack. Alexander Lacazette replaced Aubameyang in the second half of the match and there was still no impact. With Bukayo Saka out of the squad in the second half, Arsenal failed to launch an attacking threat. Manchester City got a well deserved win at the Etihad as they got to the top of the Premier League table, just for the while though.

2. Players Played Out Of Their Natural Positions

Arsenal never had a winger to run in behind Manchester City’s defense in today’s match as Nicolas Pepe wasn’t in today’s squad. Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard are all attacking midfielders who played as center midfielders in today’s match. It was just all wrong for Mikel Arteta today, he’ll have to bring in more summer signings if he still wants to be their manager. They signed four players this summer, but none of them was in today’s starting lineup.
