American based gymnast and gold Medalist at the just concluded African Games, Uche Eke says his ultimate target is to win a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.
The 22 year-old graduate of computer science from University of Michigan, won a gold in the pommel horse category, beating the Algerians and Egyptians to the top spot at the 2019 African Games in Morrocco,he told Journalist that he is focused on getting the ultimate price at next Year’s Olympic games.
“Winning gold medal of the pommel horse category is an indication that my dream of going to Tokyo next year to become the first African to win a medal in gymnastics at the Olympics remains on course. I am fully committed to that dream of getting the ultimate price at the Olympic(gold medal).”
Eke seeks to shatter the glass ceiling by becoming the first African to win a medal in gymnastics at the Olympics, especially with the fact most of his contemporary for the Tokyo Olympics gymnastics events from team USA, are all a step behind him.
Born in Maryland, USA to Nigerian parents, Eke is drawing inspirations from the likes of Courtney Dike, Alex Iwobi and the current trio of Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga who remain committed to Nigeria despite having the option of representing other countries of their births.
